Feeding Your Soul in the Midst of Ministry, by Nancy Nelson

nancy-nelson.jpgHave you ever felt hunger pangs while you're walking through a grocery store? Food is all around you, and yet you're starving? Ministry wives often find themselves spiritually hungry, even in the midst of the grocery store called church. You can attend Bible studies and dutifully listen to sermons and still find yourself feeling empty. What causes a person devoted to God, diligent in ministry, and busy caring for God's children, to run dry? Over the last 26 years, I have occasionally found myself in a spiritual famine. My spirit growled, even while I was serving soul food to others.

ray-pritchard.jpgYou might call this text "The forgotten chapter of the Christmas story." It is a genealogy--a list of names, most of them unpronounceable. Because of that, this is a portion of Scripture that we tend to overlook. We don't know what to do with it. It's not often read in public. For that matter, we don't read it often in private unless we're following one of those "read the Bible in a year" plans. Hardly anyone ever memorizes this passage, and to my knowledge it's never been set to music.

Queen Vashti, in the book of Esther, is a powerful example of the influence of women. King Ahasuerus requested her presence at is drunken brawl and she refused, moving the king's advisers to suggest putting her away "...for the queen's conduct will be known to all the women causing them to look with contempt on their husbands...".

Tired.
If you're a ministry wife,
that's probably a common word for you.
Here's how you can get back on your spiritual toes.

One Friday morning (it wasn't even Monday, the usual after-church letdown day), Stuart and I struggled to wake up. "You're tired," I observed sympathetically.

lisa-mckay.jpgSome time ago, I received an email with a question that I found very intriguing. Unfortunately, a technical difficulty corrupted my email folder and I was unable to access it again.  Imagine my delight when I was browsing through some other files and located the note tucked away where it didn't belong.  Of course, I shouldn't say it didn't belong there because God obviously preserved it for such a time as this!

valorie-burton.jpg"Finish your outdoor work and get your fields ready. After that, build your house." - Proverbs 24:27

What have you been trying to accomplish, but found yourself unable to make great progress? Both personally and as a life coach, I have often found that women become stuck not because they don't know how to move forward, but because the mental and physical chaos of their lives clouds their path.
pastors-wives.JPGLife as a ministry wife is a whirlwind trip best taken strapped in tight. A stormy tour through my husband's first church solidified the need for me to remain seated until the ride came to a full and complete stop. I tried to follow the rules on these waves of ministry. I quickly learned what I was made of. Once upon a time I sported a charming pair of rose-colored glasses. They were enchanting, magically turning all ministry prospects into a wonderful opportunity. Cautionary warnings from veteran pastors didn't curb my enthusiasm. Ministry life would be rosy and good.
